In Loving Memory of Velina "Pinkie" Ampley
Sunrise - August 19, 1955  Sunset - June 13,  2025

Velina Ampley, known to just about everyone as "Pinkie" for the bright splash of color she brought to every room, completed her earthly journey after a long hard battle with cancer. A free spirit, a fighter, and a fashion-forward trend‑setter, Pinkie never met a challenge she couldn't stare down.

Born on August 19, 1955, in Alexandria, Virginia, Pinkie was one of seven children of the late gospel singer Johnnie B. Williams and Annie Ampley. Growing up under the care of her loving Aunt Maisey, she learned important life lessons. Those lessons guided her to Martin Community College, where she earned her nursing degree and discovered a lifelong calling in home‑health care.

Fiercely independent, Pinkie's raised four children on her own terms: Maurice, Teisha (deceased), Tyson, and Lindrick. She loved her eight grandchildren—Darius, Shifara, Nakiah, Nykeria, Linaizha, Ayinde, Tyson Jr., and Aiden—and two great‑grandchildren—Zoemari Victor and Asajj Elizabeth.  Her circle of love also includes her devoted sisters Janice and Jennette, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who long ago became family.

People gravitated to Pinkie's vibrant spirit. She was the "cool mom" who tried to out‑dance teenagers at her legendary block parties. Pinkie was an unstoppable woman who refused to take "no" for an answer. She was the life of every gathering and shined brightly in her favorite jewelry. In later years she collected all things elephant, a symbol of wisdom and strength that resonated with her. Quick‑witted, curious, and always up for a new adventure, she treated life like a grand experiment and invited everyone else to join in the discovery.

As she matured, Pinkie's inquisitive nature guided her toward discovering her faith. Monday evenings found her deep in Bible discussions, eager to learn the truths about God. Her trust in God's promises gave her comfort and hope.

Pinkie lived fully and loved fiercely, and her life was a testament to the beauty of embracing every moment. As we remember her laughter, her strength, and the sparkle she brought to the lives she touched, we are reminded of this timeless truth:

"I have concluded that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good during their life" – Ecclesiastes 3:12

May we all carry a piece of Pinkie's light with us—dancing a little more freely, loving a little more loudly, and choosing joy, just as she did.

Please keep the Ampley family in your thoughts and prayers.
