Obituary

Spencer Cherry was born on January 27, 1960, in Pitt County, North Carolina, to the late Spencer Cherry Jr. and Christine Cherry. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 22, 2025.

Spencer received his early education at Robersonville High School and North Pitt High School. Following his graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. After his military service, he pursued further education at Pitt Community College, earning degrees in both Welding and Photography.

A man of deep faith and commitment to his community, Spencer was a devoted member of Conetoe Baptist Church. He was passionate about mentoring young men and played a key role in forming the Men of Standard (MOS), an initiative focused on guiding and uplifting boys in the community.

He also played an instrumental role in founding the Conetoe Family Farm alongside Pastor Richard E. Joyner, a project that continues to positively impact countless lives.

Spencer was known for his warm spirit and many talents. He loved fishing, cooking, painting cars, and, most of all, spending quality time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Spencer Cherry Sr. and Christine Cherry; two brothers, Robert Cherry and Bobby Cherry; and one sister, Shirley Cherry. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of 40 years, Teresa Cherry, of the home; his children: Janelle Hidalgo (1SG Ret. David) of South Carolina, Terrell Cherry (Connie) of Conetoe, NC, Latrez Cherry of Greenville,NC, and Takevion Matthewson (Courtney) of Washington, NC; 16 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, One goddaughter Tamika Warren, and 2 godsons Byron Stokes, and Derrin Tajai Warren. Spencer is also survived by six beloved sisters: Mary Andrews (Richard) of Parmele, NC; Bertha Staton of Bethel, NC; Doristine Mathewson of Robersonville, NC; Letha Harvey (Nick) of Washington, NC; Patricia Howard (Hosa) of Hobgood, NC; and Carolyn Hudgins (Ronald) of Parmele, NC; and three brothers: Lee Cherry (Edith) of Robersonville, NC; Spencer Daniels (Ann) of Greenville, NC; and Jerry Jordan (Debra). He also leaves behind many godbrothers and Clarence Mooring (Sarah), William Thomas (Clara), Alexander Thomas (Annie), Earl Thomas (Maxine), Patricia Thomas, Christine Lewis, and Evette Barnes. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends will miss him deeply. Special friends include: Quentin Everette, Jasper Lynch, William Jones, Ken Bell, BD Cancer, Toy Lyons, Calvin Stokes, John Ward, Lowe Lyons, and Steve Carroll.

Spencer Cherry's life was one of service, love, and purpose. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him
