Rachel Elizabeth Jones was born on January 13,1946 to Mr. John Dixon Sr. and Christine Jones Smith in Kinston N.C. Rachel graduated from Woodington High School in Kinston, N.C. Rachel furthered her education by attending ECU in Greenville, N.C. Rachel majored in Social Worker program. After graduating from ECU Rachel moved to Oakland, CA. While living in Oakland Rachel worked as a Social Worker. Rachel chose this field because she had a heart for people. Rachel loved helping anyone she could. Helping others brought Rachel the most joy.  Rachel attended church while in Oakland and applied that same giving heart to ministry. Rachel was very involved in the ministry at the church in Oakland. Rachel taught Sunday School and was part of the Community Outreach Ministry.

After residing in Oakland, CA for more than 20 years Rachel decided it was time to return to her home in Kinston, N.C. Rachel returned to Kinston where she pursued her passion for helping others through a ministry of providing food and meals to those in need. Rachel joined with Grace Fellowship Church where she was able to continue with her food ministry and doing what she was called to do.

Rachel was proceed in death by her father, Mr. John Dixon Sr., her mother,  Mrs. Christine Jones Smith of Kinston N.C. Two brothers, Mr. Leon Miller-Jones of Kinston, N.C., and Mr. Joseph Dixon Of Summerset, NJ.

Rachel is survived by one sister Miss Viscurtine Dixon of Kinston, N.C., two brothers, Mr. John Dixon, Jr. of Kinston, N.C., and Mr. Edward Jerome Dixon of Plainville, NJ, one Aunt, Miss Sarah Jones of Kinston, N.C., one stepsister, Ms. Carol Meeks of Carlsbad, CA, two stepbrother. Mr. Donald Miller of Grifton, N.C., Michael Miller of Oakland CA.,and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

The family would like to give sincere thanks to Michelle Williams, Elwanda Rogers, Mr. & Mrs. Jarman, and Dede Peele who were always there to assist Rachel whenever the need arose and for whatever the reason.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday December 2nd, 2023 at Mitchell's Memorial Funeral Home Inc.
