James Andrew Hyman entered into eternal rest on August 28, 2023 at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.

James Hyman was in the Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He was stationed in the USS Albany at Mayport, Florida. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

James Hyman was preceded in death by his parents, King Hyman, Sr. and Emma (Nie Brown)Hyman; his brother, King Hyman, Jr. and Willie Lee Hyman; sister, Emma Hyman and Geraldine Brown; one son, James Hyman, Jr. and one daughter, Vonne Hyman.

Surviving him are his partner, Mary Johnson; two sisters, Areathia Winns of New York and Doris Godard of North Carolina; one son, Travis Mercer; six stepchildren, Alice, Rosa, Linda, Brenda, Maggie and Johnny; twelve grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. He was blessed to have a host of loving and caring step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
