Obituary

Fred Lee Midgette, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his family. His
life's journey began 78 years ago when he was adopted by his parents, the late Frederick
"Fred" N. Midgette and the late Alice Hemby Midgette.

Fred was raised on the Midgette Family Farm in Greenville NC. He meet his twin brother
at 12 years old where he was raised in a foster home near Winterville, NC.

At an early age, Fred worked tirelessly on his family's farm. As a young adult, he worked
at the Bissette's Drug Store, Hardee's, fast food restaurants, School Bus driver for Pitt
County Schools, Teacher's Aid as a Baseball Coach at Falkland School. His students
would call him Freddie the frog because of his big eyes. While still working on the farm,
he would plant during the day and work at night. After farming most of his life, he
stopped farming and landed a job in March 1984 at T.R.W in Greenville NC. When
T.R.W closed down, he was 61 years old, then he worked at Naeco Plant for two years.
He left there on disability.

At an early age, Fred joined Arthur's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Later on our
family joined Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church.

Fred married the love of his life on July 3 rd , 1969, Mrs. Peggie Joan Smith Midgette, a
loving devoted wife of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Alice Hemby Midgette and one
son, Sgt. Fredrick Jerome Midgette.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving, devoted wife of 55 years, Peggie Midgette of
the home; one son, Mr. Anthony Payton and one daughter, Miss Latisha Ann Midgette
both of Greenville, NC; two grandchildren, Miss Moniya Leeanna Midgette and Mr.
Malik Andrews Phillips both of Greenville, NC; one sister, Mrs. Agnes Watkins (James)
of Greensboro, NC; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Stewart (David) of Grifton, NC,
Miss Martha Marie Smith of Charlotte NC, Ms. Portia J. Smith of Rocky Mount NC, and
Ms. Mary Smith of New York; three special nieces, Mrs. Linda Corey Mitchell (Bobby),
Mrs. Debra Corey Grant (Jessie) both of Greenville, NC, and Miss Jacquline D. Smith of
Morrisville, NC; adopted sister, Ms. Betty Payton Brown of Farmville, NC and adopted
brother-in-law, Mr. John Bridges, Jr. of Greenville NC, and an abundance of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
