Dora Marie
Howard
August 5, 1965 – October 30, 2025
Mrs. Dora Marie Powell Howard, age 60, peacefully transitioned from this life on Thursday, October 30, 2025. She was born on August 5, 1965, to the late Jesse Farmer and Annie Belle Powell.
In her early years, Marie resided in Washington, D.C., before relocating to Tarboro, North Carolina, with her grandmother at the age of 13. She received her education in the Edgecombe County Public Schools and graduated from Tarboro High School in the Class of 1983.
On September 21, 1990, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Mr. Walter Lee Howard. Together, they shared 35 beautiful years of love and devotion and were blessed with three wonderful daughters.
Marie dedicated her working life to several local organizations, including Black & Decker, the Heritage Hospital Cafeteria, Hoke Restaurant, and Mayo Knitting Mill. Her strong work ethic, cheerful spirit, and compassionate heart touched everyone she encountered.
A woman full of life and personality, Marie loved cooking, listening to music, dancing, and spending quality time in fellowship with her family and friends. Known for her "tell it like it is" honesty and her friendly, talkative nature, she never met a stranger. Her siblings lovingly called her "The Peacemaker." Charismatic, vivacious, and full of joy, Marie brightened every room she entered.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Mamie Sherrod; her parents, Jesse Farmer and Annie Belle Powell; and her brother, Dennis Farmer.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Walter Lee Howard; her three loving daughters, Tawana Nikki Barnes, Arriya Shanice Lynetta Howard (Stevie), and Adina Marie Howard; her siblings, Barbara Ann Powell, Freddie Powell, James Powell (Lashawn), Jesse Ray Farmer, Terry Farmer, Robert Farmer, Carolyn Gayden (Eddie), Delois Farmer, Catherine Farmer, Angela Bullock (Perry), and Margaret Louise; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Marie's life was guided by faith and filled with joy, laughter, and wisdom. She often shared her favorite sayings that will continue to echo in the hearts of those who loved her:
"Believe in God!"
"Run It Back!"
"No Fool, No Fun!"
"Goodtimes, Goodtimes!"
"Prayers go up, Blessings come down!"
Her legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
Please keep the Howard family in your thoughts and prayers.
A service, Love and Care, Entrusted to Mitchell's Memorial Funeral Home Inc., located at 5426 Front Lane, Ayden, N.C. 28513.
