Mr. Alfonzo Mayo, affectionately known as Bill Jr., age 67, of Tarboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, November 3, 2025, at ECU Health Edgecombe.

Bill was born on July 7, 1958, in Edgecombe County to the late John Jay Mayo and Ethelene Allen Mayo.

Bill attended Edgecombe County Schools and worked for many years at Hyman Farms, where he worked diligently until his health declined. On February 23, 1996, he married the love of his life, Mary Mitchell Mayo.

Bill found joy in simple pleasures, cooking, singing, and spending time with his beloved family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Ethelene Mayo; his brother, John J. Mayo Jr.; his sister, Bernice Mayo Sherrod; and his niece, Shamika Mayo.

Billy leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Mary M. Mayo; three children: two sons, Demetrice D. Mitchell and Alfonza Mayo Jr., both of the home; and one daughter, Jelexis U. Mayo of Tarboro, NC. He was a proud grandfather to one grandson, Hendrix U. Ruffin, who was the apple of his eye. He is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Mayo Keel (Ricky) of Pinetops, NC, and Dianne Mayo of Rocky Mount, NC; one brother, James Curtis Mayo of Badin, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends who will cherish his memory.

Bill's life was one filled with love, laughter, and faith, and his legacy will continue to shine through the lives of all who knew him.
